The ability to display measurement monitors is a useful feature and is well supported. Access to these monitors is available in the Measuring section of the Molecules page of the Style Window (see Figure 5.3). This section is disabled by default, but can be turned on by checking the box next to the ``Measuring" title. Measurements are made based on the current set of selected atoms and bonds.
[Angle Monitor]
[Torsion Monitor]

There are three supported measurement modes: Distance, Angle, and Torsion. Measurements are made based on the atoms and bonds that are selected after measuring mode is enabled. The Distance mode measures the distance between two selected atoms or the length of one selected bond. The Angle mode measures the angle between three selected atoms or between two selected and also adjacent bonds. The Torsion mode measures the torsion angle defined by four selected atoms or three selected and also adjacent bonds. The order in which atoms are selected in Torsion mode is important to the determination of the torsion angle. The result of any given measurement is displayed in the application status bar as well as in the Scripting Window (see chapter 11).
When selecting atoms or bonds for measurement, the Shift key does not need to be depressed to select multiple atoms or bonds as would normally be the case. In addition, the measuring mode limits subsequent selections to only those atoms or bonds that would be valid input parameters to the current mode. For instance, if measuring in Angle mode and one bond was already selected, it would not be possible to select a non-adjacent bond as that would be a meaningless measurement. If a mistake is made, the selection can always be cleared by clicking in the background. By default, the previously selected set of atoms and bonds will be cleared when initiating a new selection after a measurement has been made. This automatically clearing can be disabled by toggled by selecting the ``Auto clear measurement stack" option in the Mouse menu in the main menubar.
The fourth button in this section toggles whether or not actual monitors should be shown in the 3D display corresponding to the measurements made. Monitors can be removed by performing a right-click operation in the 3D display and selecting the ``Delete visible monitors" option. Monitors are also displayed in the ``List Window" and can be deleted individually there (see chapter 9). Examples of the three types of monitors can be seen in Figure 5.7.5.
