Every user has his or her own individual preferences with regards to how molecules and grids should look and how applications should behave. For this reason, a Preferences dialog is available which allows customization of the application to the user's preference. An snapshot of the Preferences dialog can be seen in Figure 12.1.

On the left-hand side of the dialog is column containing preference categories. These categories include: General, Display, Scripting, Styles, and Special Views. Clicking on any of these categories will update the right-hand side of the widget to display the options corresponding to the selected category.
The Restore button at the bottom of the dialog box will restore the current preferences to the default application settings.
Preferences are stored in a binary file (preferences.oeb) in a
user-specific local directory on the computer currently running the
application. On Microsoft Windows, the preferences file can be found in
C:.
On all other platforms, the preferences can be found in
Documents and Settings
USERNAME
OpenEye
VIDA2USERNAME/.OpenEye/VIDA2.
This preferences file is a different style of the OEB format than that used for molecules and therefore it cannot be read into VIDA using the ``Open" menu item in the File menu. This file is loaded automatically when the application starts and is written back to disk when the application exits. Deleting this file is equivalent to pressing the Restore button in the dialog box.
