OpenEye Platform Support
-
Tier One Platforms
-
Definition:
Tier One designation denotes a specific commitment to providing
software compatible with those platforms. All new software
releases, beta and official, will be built for those platforms
and made available to licensees. This committment continues for two
years after a platform is removed from Tier One.
Tier One is intended to be a conservative list and solid commitment
upon which the OpenEye user community can depend. The
commitment time specified herein is regarded as a minimum, and the goal is
significantly more. When any downgrades off the Tier One list are
considered, the importance of consulting and notifying licensees will
be recognized, and will be announced through announce@eyesopen.com
newslist and other means.
-
Tier Two Platforms
-
Definition:
Tier Two platforms are those for which OpenEye software has proven
to be consistently portable and
for which all new software releases are normally built.
OpenEye makes no formal future commitment to supporting these
platforms. However, Tier Two listing implies that all current
product releases are available for these platforms.
In practice, these platforms are a very diverse set and should be regarded
as such, in particular with respect to OpenEye support. Promotion to
Tier One depends on a combination of commercial demand and technical
merit. There is great diversity among the Tier Two platforms.
The only commonality which should be inferred is that they are not
Tier One. Some Tier Two platforms would become Tier
One with only slightly more commercial demand. Please contact
OpenEye support directly for more specific information which may exist
pertinent to your planning needs.
-
Tier Three Platforms
-
Definition: (1) no known technical incompatibility, and
(2) OpenEye currently has the necessary equipment. Products will not
routinely be released on these platforms, but may be on request from
licensees.
-
Other Platforms
- OpenEye software is extremely portable and other platforms can be
supported on request if commercially justified. Support for a
specific new platform is available, normally requiring a
one-time fee plus a fully configured computer system.
-
Special note regarding GUIs
-
Applications with GUIs (graphical user interfaces), such as Vida, have
additional compatibility requirements. Consequently, OpenEye's
committment is different for GUIs. The Tier One rules do apply to GUIs.
However, some Tier Two and Three platforms are incompatible with
some GUIs. GUIs cannot, and/or will not, be released for some Tier Two
platforms.
