In 2024, OpenEye, Cadence Molecular Sciences harvested leafcutter bees to support biodiversity on the Bisbee campus in Santa Fe, New Mexico. After the leafcutter bee homes were constructed last fall, cocoons were planted.
This past spring, the larvae developed, and adult leafcutter bees emerged. They wasted no time and immediately got to work!
In addition to boosting the soil health, leafcutter bees pollinated wildflowers all over the Bisbee campus. Employees and customers are greeted each day by shades of yellow, pink, and purple. In addition to the various colors and textures in the flourishing landscape, the flowers help reduce stress, improve mental health, and increase mindfulness.
We have our leafcutter bee friends to thank for the beautiful atmosphere this summer. After all, if you don’t stop and smell the flowers once in awhile…
